It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our colleague and friend Heather Murdoch on Saturday, 22 June 2024.
Heather has been an integral part of the firm dealing with employment and education matters and she brought much reassurance and support to the people and schools that she worked with. Her sudden death has sent us all reeling and we therefore appreciate your understanding as Tim and the firm navigate this difficult time. Arohanui.
Principal, Heather Murdoch, joined Trollope & Co Lawyers in August 2018. She is passionate about education and has spent most of her 33 years’ experience in the law working with, for or as an educator. She primarily works with boards of trustees, principals, teachers, and parents helping to resolve the wide range of issues that arise in the sector, including employment law matters.
Heather started her career as a lawyer working as a Judges Clerk in the High Court of Christchurch before moving to private practice in the litigation team. She taught the litigation model at the Institute of Legal Studies for several years. Together with a friend and colleague she established a private training business, Project Law Ltd. Project Law provided in-house training for law firms and related agencies.
As an investigator for 8 years at the Ombudsman, she investigated many education sector complaints. Her time with the Ombudsman expanded her diverse range of skills, including, investigations, quasi mediation and adjudication skills.
Heather is accredited as an Associate Member of the Arbitrators' and Mediators' Institute of New Zealand and can be engaged to carry out independent investigations and as an Independent Mediator.
